Our Services
The CBT Hypno Clinic provides two main types of therapy although we may discuss other options with you during the initial session. The absolute priority is to provide a programme of therapy that is a good fit for you.
It may be helpful for you to understand a little more about the therapeutic approaches used.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a talking based therapy that is based on the understanding that your thoughts, emotions, your physical feelings and how you behave are all connected. When one or all of these seem to be working against you – negative thoughts, unpleasant physical sensations and challenging emotions – you may feel like you are in a constant cycle of negativity. This can lead to anxiety, low mood, stress and other upsetting and frustrating challenges.
CBT takes a systematic, step-by-step approach to helping you manage these challenges, breaking them down into different parts. This helps you spot patterns in your thoughts and behaviours, understand yourself better and give you some control over how you can start to feel better.
What is hypnotherapy (and what it is not!)?
Before I started training as a hypnotherapist I – perhaps like you – saw hypnosis as a stage act or something even creeping into the occult. I promise you, it is definitely not this.
Hypnotherapy allows a client to access a deeply relaxed state totally naturally. Once a person is in that calm and peaceful state of mind, changes can be introduced to their unconscious mind more easily than if the person was in their normal state of awareness. This is done ethically and only ever in a therapeutic environment.
How can you combine CBT with Hypnotherapy?
Sometimes talking therapies such as CBT work well and for others, they find that they need something a bit more. Hypnotherapy is a very powerful way of addressing the challenges you experience and accelerating the changes you wish to make.
For example, perhaps you get very anxious about driving.
Initially, we can explore your thoughts and behaviours acting as a barrier to you being a confident driver through CBT exercises.
Then, whilst you are very relaxed and at ease during hypnotherapy, we can use calm visualisation techniques to start to replace these negative thoughts and behaviours with a more helpful, revised version of you: feeling calm, in control and measured about any risks you may encounter on the road.
